- Early Roots (1870s): Began with monthly services for seven members in 1870. Organized as St. Joseph's mission in 1872. Florence Peugh held the first Sunday school classes in her home.
- A New Name & Home (1886): Under the Rev. W.P. Browne, the mission was renamed Church of the Incarnation. Rev. Browne and an assistant built a simple frame church by hand.
- Overcoming Challenges: Through WWI and the Depression, lay readers and faithful members kept the church active. In the 1930s, a young architect member used foundation bricks to veneer the original frame building, sparking a parish renewal.
- Growth and Modern Era: The church added Sunday school rooms, a parish hall, and a youth/outreach house. Incarnation achieved full Parish status in 1999.
- Distinguished Clergy: Three former clergy became bishops, including the Rev. John McKee Sloan (11th Bishop of Alabama).
Today, this legacy of devotion continues to welcome everyone seeking community and purpose.
